Health Department

Prescription Drug Abuse continues to be on the rise across the nation, and Erie Prescription Drugsis unfortunately following the trend. However through education and programing we can better combat this problem as a community. First we educate physicians and health care professionals on proper prescribing; which includes making sure patients are being prescribed proper medications as well as the proper amounts of medication. We also provide education to patients on medication safety, which includes proper storage, proper adherence and proper disposal.  As for programs, we offer the Medication Return Units. These units are place in twelve police stations all over Erie County, and are perfect way to dispose of any unwanted prescription or over the counter medication. The medication collected from these units are safely collected and destroyed, and help us prevent diversion and misuse.

We also provide poison prevention presentations, and activities for schools and local organizations. These presentations are geared towards teaching children the difference between safe and harmful, and what they should do if they ever come across anything they are unsure of (stay away!)
