Erie, PA – The County Executive is pleased to announce the opening of the 2014 application period for the Erie County Greenways Program. The County has created the Greenways Program, funded with Act 13 Marcellus Legacy Fund monies provided from the Commonwealth, in order to fund eligible projects throughout Erie County. The goal of this program is to improve the quality of life in Erie County through the preservation and enhancement of the region’s natural, scenic and recreational resources for public use and enjoyment.

Eligible applicants include state agencies, local governments and authorities, schools and universities and incorporated non-profit organizations registered as a 501(c)(3). Various types of greenways and recreational projects will be eligible for consideration, such as acquisition, development and repair of greenways, recreational trails, open space, natural areas, community conservation and beautification projects, and community and heritage parks. Funding requests are limited to a maximum of $50,000.00.

Copies of the program guidelines and application can be obtained on the Erie County Planning Department webpage. Please note that all applications must be received in the Erie County Planning Department no later than Monday, February 24, 2014 by 4:30 p.m.
